Why meditation is key
Dear Reader,
Thank you for being here. I’d love to talk more at length about meditation in this blog post. Meditation can bring up different feelings for everyone. Some people swear by it, some people think it is a waste of time, some people like to practice off and on during hard times. For me, I’ve struggled over the years having a consistent meditation practice. I’ve always wanted to have one, but time seems to slip away during the day and by the end of it- I’m usually too tired to will myself into a meditative state, believing I’ll just fall asleep.
But when I do meditate, I always discover so many little things about myself that I had never really paid attention to. Sitting in stillness can be hard. It can bring pain up to the surface that we simply aren’t wanting to feel. And it is okay to not deal with everything all at once. We need breaks!
But one thing I have learned over the years is that sitting in stillness with ourselves is a valuable skill that will pay off in other life situations. Maybe you’re stuck in traffic and you feel your blood pressure rising. Maybe a difficult person in your life keeps providing frustrating situations for you. Maybe your kid won’t stop crying one day. All of these situations are going to get to us, but the skill that meditation provides is not only how to move through them, but how to move through them with more perspective. Maybe even humor! The more we come to know ourselves in silent stillness, the less afraid we will become of the pain that we carry. And the more we can move through frustrating times that are inevitably going to present themselves.
Meditation is a key practice that is free, simple, and everyone can do without fail. Even if you sit there and your mind is running a million miles a minute, all you need to do is say “oh look how fast my mind is moving! I will give myself permission to experience this because I trust it will get better one day.”
Meditation is a skill that becomes easier with consistent practice. It is a wonderful resource that will build our self-trust, self-love, and confidence in everyday life.
Happy meditating, everyone!
Xo,
Annabelle
